The Playbus was launched in 2002 and visits Honeypot children in their own communities up to three times a year. It is a specially adapted mobile activity centre offering a safe, therapeutic environment where children can learn through play and informal education. February 2007 brought us fantastic news in the form of a 3-year funding programme from the Big Lottery to support the Playbus and its activities.
There is a fantastic array of things to do on board. Downstairs the children can create their own masterpieces through drawing, painting and modelling. Upstairs they can dress up and play with face paints, games, jigsaw puzzles, musical instruments, books and toys. On sunny days we are able to take activities outside, shaded by our ‘bee striped’ awning that extends from the side of the bus.
When not in use by Honeypot children, the Playbus is available for private hire by families, businesses and community groups, which helps to provide much-needed income to support our services.
