Bumble’s Incredible Journey

Romsey plumber Paul Rogers, has chosen to support local children’s charity Honeypot, through an incredible sailing adventure. Launched on 13th September The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race sees a crew of 400 people racing ten identical, 68ft stripped down racing yachts around the world over the next ten months. What makes this race different is that the boats are crewed mainly by amateur sailors - bakers, bankers, vets, doctors, this is the only race that gives everyday people from all walks of life the chance to take part in such a challenging race. Paul Rogers will be racing in leg four from Australia to China via Singapore on the Edinburgh Inspiring Capital boat, covering 5,200 miles in total and facing some of the most extreme seas imaginable. As part of his fundraising, Honeypot’s mascot ‘Bumble’ is taking part in the entire race around the world, being passed on by different crew members at the end of each leg to complete his journey. He is pictured with Paul Rogers and Sir Robin Knox – Johnston, the first man to sail solo around the world and the founder of the Clipper Race. Honeypot provides respite breaks and long term support for young carers and very vulnerable children.

Please help Paul reach his target of raising £5,000 for by making a donation through his justgiving page www.justgiving.com/myclipperrace

You can track Bumble’s progress on the Honeypot Facebook page.

Note to Editors

The Honeypot Charity  - 2009 Key Facts

  • Honeypot is a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable children and young carers aged 5 – 12 years.  Through the provision of respite holidays at Honeypot House in the New Forest, and a programme of long-term support
  • The programme starts with a five day holiday at Honeypot House and then continues with a programme of support which includes; annual repeat weekend breaks at Honeypot house and Avon Tyrrell. All of these holidays are staffed by Honeypot Employees. All the children in our programme receive three visits each year from our Playbus, Birthday cards and Christmas Presents (often the only present they will receive). This programme of support continues every year until they are 12 year old.
  • We support up to 1000 children a year.
  • Honeypot allows these children to be children again, to learn to play in a nurturing and safe environment and make friends. They can forget their worries and this helps when they get home as it gives them inner strength and they are more able to cope. Knowing that they are part of the Honeypot Club they can look forward to coming back to Honeypot House.
  • We are the only charity in the UK that provides long term respite support for this group of disadvantaged children.
  • It currently costs just under £1m to support these children and we rely totally on donations and fundraising to run our charity.
